In an ever growing feud between Facebook and Twitter , Instagram has banned the use of Instagram photos in tweets. This is another chapter of the quest of Twitter and Facebook to be the top social network.  Facebook won the first round vs Twitter when they Outbid Twitter for Instagram. The second round was won by Twitter when  Twitter prevented Instagram users using Twitter data to find friends.    On December 6th when Instagram stop allowing their pictures on Twitter, Facebook is try increase the number people who have an Instagram account and to make Instagram a feature of only Facebook and not a feature of other social media outlets.

Strictly speaking, users can still do this. The only feature being disabled is the ability to view it in the tweet stream (photo left). In the future, users can upload to Twitter and a link will be posted, allowing the user to click and view the content on Instagram itself.

Facebook began to recognize Twitter as a competitor when Facebook changed their page outlook when they add the Timeline feature to look more like Twitter.  Over the next Few years  Twitter and Facebook will continue to fight to be the top of the field in an attempt to force the other out of business and keep trying to come out with the next great advancement in the field of social media.

  1. I find the between al the social media outlets to be ridiculous. They all technically work together and ideally people want to used all of them together. Once these social media outlets start to put restrictions, people will start to get mad, and people like twitter or even instagram might even lose users.

  3. I think once these apps like Twitter and Instagram get too restricted there will be room for new applications. Especially with privacy policies, I’m sure there’s plenty of people jumping to create the next Instagram or Twitter and will be picked up once these companies get too controlling.

  4. I also really enjoyed the article. One of the biggest advantages of Twitter compared to Facebook is a constant real life stream of information. Much of this content is show through the use of images. Since facebook does have the competitive advantage of owning instagram, wouldn’t Twitter want users to continuing using instagram so that facebook doesn’t have sole control of instagram?
